Peter Marsh is a journalist and lecturer specialising in modern manufacturing. In recent years Peter has given talks on this topic in 16 countries including China, South Korea, Italy, the US, Germany, Qatar, Lithuania, South Africa, Turkey and Brazil. His best known book is “The New Industrial Revolution: Consumers, Globalization and the End of Mass Production”.Over a long career, Peter has visited some 3,000 factories in 30 countries.
In 2014 Peter started Made Here Now, a website covering innovation in UK manufacturing. The website closed in 2025. Covering subjects away from industry, he has conducted radio interviews on a range of topics with the radio station Soundart Radio and written a series of articles in Totnes Pulse, a Devon online magazine. The main part of Peter’s career was from 1983 to 2013 when worked as a journalist at the Financial Times, most recently as manufacturing editor, while also covering technology and economics.
Peter has a degree in chemistry from the University of Nottingham and went to school in Hove, Sussex. His other books have included The Silicon Chip Book (Abacus), The Robot Age (Abacus) and The Space Business (Penguin).
He started his journalistic career at the Evening Post in Luton, later working at Building Design and New Scientist. He lives in London and Devon.
